After the success of Radcliffe Charity Carnival 2024, "Amazing Animals," the Carnival Working Group is already looking ahead to next year.

 

Next year's Carnival will take place on Saturday 12th July 2025.

The theme is still to be decided by the Radcliffe-on-Trent Junior School Pupil Council and the members of the Radcliffe on Trent Charity Carnival Facebook group. Keep your eyes peeled on Facebook for the poll; cast your vote to decide next years' theme!

There are a number of ways in which local organisations, charities, community groups, families, and businesses can get involved in the Carnival; joining our procession, providing entertainment, running a stall, helping close a road, putting up endless gazebos ...

You can also participate in our many competitions. The Competition Categories tab in the navigation bar will lead you to an in-depth explanation of each prize to be won on Carnival day and how to enter. Give it a read and decide what fits best for your group!

We want to give a particular mention to two categories:

1. The Ted Ward Trophy for the Best Walking Float

The Nottingham 22nd Boys Brigade have been undefeated in this category for upwards of five years and are due some competition!

Have a look at their entry from this year, their magnificent Noah's Ark. Could you beat it?

2. The Claire Dodds Trophy for the Best Carnival Display

This category was introduced in 2024 to recognise how the Royal Oak has been going above and beyond in their Best Dressed Shop Window competition entries. Best Carnival Display is perfect for those businesses that want to go that extra mile.

Check out how the Royal Oak was transformed this July. Give them a run for their money in 2025!

'Highlight of the Village Summer Events '

Radcliffe 'pulls together' to put on another great family treat.

In glorious sunshine a very successful Radcliffe on Trent Carnival celebrated "Festivals of the World" on Saturday 14th July, with huge numbers of people taking part or just enjoying the day.

Although everyone in Radcliffe benefits because the money raised goes into supporting the local groups & charities who help on the day, there are always some 'winners'. In  case you didn't see all of the presentations by the Mayor of Rushcliffe the list is below: Congratulations to all.

Come and join us for a fabulous afternoon of family friendly fun!

There's something for every member of the family at the Radcliffe on Trent Carnival tomorrow, and just about all of Radcliffe's many activities will be represented in the Procession, Stalls and taking part in the Entertainment. 

So come along and support Simply Dance and the Infant School Choir; we know they have been practising very hard. 

Returning by request are the U3A Ukulele Band and the Trent Navigation Shanty Band who are performing in the Grange Hall, & also, fresh from recent competition success,  the Phoenix Signing Choir.

Don't miss the display by the Dako Flying Angels in the Arena, they will astound and inspire you!

For the very youngest of our audience there's Punch & Judy shows.

The Tug of War is your opportunity to get involved in the fun or just to cheer on your family & friends.

And finally .....Estelle and the Redfish will give a great set and send us home dancing .

Dako Flying Angels Display Team heading to Radcliffe on Trent Carnival in celebration of Festivals of the World

Just one of the many entertainment 'acts' that are going to be happening at Radcliffe Carnival on Saturday 14th July. 

Here are the display team performing in the heat of last Saturday in Trinity Square, ( before the football!)

Come along to The Grange from 12:00 for stalls, children's activities, and all sorts of refreshment.  

The Procession will start at 1:00 and come down Bingham Road to the Grange   and there's loads more going on until 5:00. 

All the money raised ( after costs) goes to support village organisations and charities  - so please share with your friends, family and neighbours

Carnival Judges found 'Picking the best Designs -Very Hard!'

 

The Carnival Group had an overwhelming response from Radcliffe on Trent Infant School and Radcliffe on Trent Junior School to our request for artwork for the Carnival posters and programme. 

A few of the great entries are shown above and lots more will be on display in the Grange Hall on 14th July.

Thank you so much to all the children for their fantastic design work and for giving us such a hard job in picking a winner from each school to put on the posters and for the cover for the Carnival Poster.

The posters are being put up over the next few days; if they don't already know please tell your friends & neighbours about the Carnival

Join us at THE FAMILY EVENT of the summer in Radcliffe on Trent!

We look forward to seeing you at the Grange from 12:00 until 5:00, 

If you come to watch the Procession, with Floats,Bands and Walking Groups, this will leave Bingham Road Playing Fields at 1:00 and come through the village to The Grange.

Our theme this year is “Festivals of the World” so we know that the Floats, stalls and Walking Groups will have all sorts of great ideas to represent this theme and it will be colourful and lively. 

We're confident that the retailers & businesses of Radcliffe will support us again by mounting Window Displays; it really helps everyone to ‘get into the Carnival Spirit’

There will be a full programme of entertainment in the Arena including the Infant School Choir, a display by Simply Dance and the wonderful Dako Flying Angels. 

In the Grange Hall the Women’s Institute will be serving delicious refreshments whilst the entertainment will include The Trent Navigation Shanty Crew, The Phoenix Signing Choir and the Radcliffe U3A Ukulele Band.

Nearly ready for the Carnival ?

Carnival might be about planning, making floats and costumes, decorating shop windows, selling raffle tickets, practising songs and dances... but who will win the Tug of War ?

It's fantastic to witness the preparation for the Radcliffe Carnival as you go around the village:

Shop Windows are taking on a new identity as they are decorated with their interpretation of  "The Show Must Go On" and I'm so glad not to be a judge this year. The judging will take place on Friday afternoon, so do go and look at all the fabulous entries.

I know that many children on their walk to school are eagerly watching the development of the latest of Steve Phair's incredible creations for the Boy's Brigade Walking Float. Not long until it is revealed and I am certain it will live up to its title of " This could be the greatest show in Radcliffe".

So don't miss out on one of Radcliffe's special community events,  be at The Grange from 12 or watch the procession come down from Golf Road at 1:00 and join us at the Grange. Admission is £2 for Adults with Children: Free, and there is a fantastic afternoon of entertainment planned.

Every part of village life will be represented: from the Playgroup in the Procession & the Infant School Choir in the Arena, to the U3A Ukulele  Band serenading you with familiar songs whilst you enjoy a cup of tea and delicious cakes served by the Womens Institute. 

Artwork Challenge for Judges

Great Entries from the Infants & Junior School for the Radcliffe Charity Carnival Artwork Competition 

The judges for the Artwork Competition to design the poster and programme cover for the Radcliffe on Trent Carnival had a very difficult task, due to an outstanding number and high quality of entries.

Thank you very much to all the children who have produced such a fantastic variety of designs, and also the the staff at the schools for their support. 

Above is the poster designed by Ryan Shaw which we felt really captured the theme of 'The Show Must Go On' and was brilliantly colourful.

We'll do our best to display as many of the entries on Carnival Day ( 8th July), in the Grange Hall.

The Show Must Go On

Have you got Saturday July 8th -Radcliffe on Trent Carnival in your calendar/diary ? 

Last year despite torrential rain in the morning we had a fantastic colourful and lively procession through the village watched by hundreds of spectators. 

They all joined in the fun at the Grange with fabulous entertainment, sideshows and delicious refreshments.

Every part of our community was involved and the support was great from businesses around the village. 

In total the 2016 Carnival raised over £10,000 for local charities & community groups.

So let's do it again!

 'Mardi Gras' Carnival raises £10,000 for Radcliffe Charities & Community Groups

Radcliffe on Trent Carnival AGM 20th October 2016

At the Annual General Meeting of the Radcliffe on Trent Carnival cheques to value of £3,500 were distributed to local charities and community groups who gave their support on July 9th 2016. 

 The accounts presented at the meeting showed in addition that over £6,500 had been raised by stallholders and other activities on the day, all of which goes to support the running of local organisations within the community of Radcliffe on Trent. 

Danny Brennan ( Chair of the Working Group) commented at the meeting that  'Every part of the community from the Playgroup to the U3A got into the Carnival spirit and joined in with colour, dancing, music and enjoyment.'

He thanked everyone for their commitment ( even when it rained!) and mentioned the retailers and businesses of Radcliffe who decorated their windows with lively Mardi Gras themes plus generously supporting with raffle prizes and donations.

The Carnival Working Group is a small number of local people who organise the Radcliffe on Trent Carnival supported by lots of other fantastic volunteers who show up on the day and just do great things. 

To make next year's Carnival work really well we could really do with a few more folk who could help with marketing, organising the entertainment, and a treasurer, (to name a few of our current skill shortages). How Radcliffe Carnival looked from a Spitfire!

I can't pretend that there weren't a few anxious moments on Saturday morning as the hardy volunteers from the Carnival Working Group, plus stalwarts of just about every organisation in the village braved torrential rain to put up gazebos, unload vehicles, layout the site and think about making sure that we could keep everyone safe on the site as it was getting a bit slippy underfoot!

But at about 11:30 the rain stopped and everyone started to smile ....

In an incredibly fast time wet tables were  transformed into groaning displays of produce, sideshows and games, arrangements of delicious cakes and information about everything from Canals to local Archaeology. The Mayor of Rushcliffe and the Chair of the Parish Council visited all the stalls and selected a winning 'Best Dressed Stall!

Meanwhile at least 200 intrepid souls from the Methodist Church, Radcliffe Olympic FC, Radcliffe Guides, Brownies & Rainbows, Radcliffe Pre- School Playgroup, Simply Dance, Radcliffe Sword Club, SNATCH, Radcliffe on Trent Drama Group, and the Boys Brigade had donned their glitter, feathers and masks and were ready to show us Mardi Gras !

 Led by the Boys Brigade Marching Band with the United Schools Samba Band bringing up the rear in a very lively fashion, the procession made its way through Radcliffe. 

They were watched by a magnificent crowd, who especially enjoyed the Samba Music& Dancing from SNATCH and the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang walking float built by Steve Phair for the Boys Brigade. 

A special mention has to go to the inspired Brownie or Rainbow leader who devised Mardi Gras multicoloured and beautifully decorated waterproof ponchos for the girls ! ( Did she know something we didn't?)

So how do you top that ?

With a Flypast by a Spitfire from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight !

There are so many great prizes to be won including a first prize of £100 and other cash prizes!

All our prizes have been donated by local businesses and retailers, so every £ raised goes into the Carnival funds which, as you know, are all given back to the Community Groups and good causes in the village, who do so much to make Radcliffe on Trent a great place to live.

Raffle tickets will be on sale at the Carnival tomorrow in the Grange grounds. 

Don't worry if you aren't going to be there at 4:30 when the raffle is drawn as we'll give you a call if you are a winner and make arrangements to get your prize to you.

Mardi Gras Shop Window Competition ...The heat is on !

 Great 'Mardi Gras' Window Displays are starting to appear around Radcliffe on Trent - how many have you spotted?

Thank you to all the shops and businesses in Radcliffe who are supporting Carnival by decorating their windows for Carnival and helping us to get into the 'Mardi Gras' spirit.

A quick walk round today and it was great to see displays at House into Home, Lesley Cree Opticians, Nottinghamshire Hospice, Cancer Research UK, Bowler & Charsley Opticians, and Love Fabric already.. plus lots of activity at Burleys. There will be more ....

Spitfire Flypast for Radcliffe on Trent Carnival

Look up in the sky on Saturday 9th July at 1:40pm

Radcliffe on Trent Carnival are delighted to welcome The Spitfire from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, which should flypast as the procession reaches The Grange, at around 1:40pm

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) is a Royal Air Force flight which provides an aerial display group comprising an Avro Lancaster, a Supermarine Spitfire and a Hawker Hurricane.

The flight is administratively part of No. 1 Group RAF, flying out of RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire.

This iconic British single-seat fighter aircraft was used by the Royal Air Force and many other Allied countries before, during and after the Second World War.

The Spitfire played a major part in achieving ultimate victory in World War Two and truly deserves its place as probably the most successful fighter design ever, and certainly as the most famous and charismatic of all time.

The development potential of the original design allowed the Spitfire to establish and then maintain the air superiority so vital to the defence of Britain and to keep pace with the improvements in performance of enemy fighters throughout World War Two.

Spitfires fought in every operational theatre of the War and remained in RAF front-line service up to 1954.

 At the end of its development the Spitfire carried an engine producing more than twice the power of the original, its maximum take-off weight and rate of climb had more than doubled, its firepower had increased by a factor of five and its maximum speed had been increased by a third; all this in essentially the same air-frame.

If you and your family enjoy a thrilling display of teamwork, acrobatics and skill,  then make sure that you are in the audience for the Dako Flying Angels who will be giving one of their marvellous displays at Radcliffe Carnival at 2:45 on Saturday 9th July at The Grange 

The Dako Flying Angels are a Gymnastics display club, based in Sneinton, Nottingham. They perform gymnastic displays from village festivals to gymnastic festivals across the world.
